Located in Collins County, McKinney Independent School District (ISD) serves students in the city of McKinney, as well as parts of Allen, Fairview, New Hope, Lowry Crossing, and Princeton. With over 24,500 currently-enrolled students, the McKinney ISD is one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state of Texas.
Twenty elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, an early childhood education center, and two alternative campuses make up the entirety of McKinney ISD. MISD maintains 68 facilities on 603 acres of ground, covering more than 4 million square feet.

In 2017, McKinney Independent School District was named one of the Best Communities in the nation for music education. In order to receive this designation, the district needs to demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.
McKinney ISD was also named a “Best Place to Work” in 2019 by the Dallas Business Journal – this was the fourth consecutive year that the district was been recognized by the award-winning publication.

MISD provides programs for students that are advanced, innovative, and forward-thinking. Here are just a few of these notable programs.
Aviation Program – This exceptional program gives students the opportunity to earn a pilot’s license before graduating high school. The education received in the program prepares students for jobs in the aviation industry. The district provides students with access to a high-tech simulator featuring 180-degree wrap-around visuals.
Robotics Program – This student-centered, innovative program emphasizes math, science, and technology along with teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. Students will participate in the FIRST and Vex robotics competitions which challenge students to design, build, and program a robot.
AVID (Advanced Via Individual Placement) – Students can prepare for college with MISD’s readiness program that gets them ready for four-year college eligibility. This program is available for students in grades 6-12.
