Academic Programs

Academic excellence is the hallmark of St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. Students will acquire a substantial college preparatory foundation in the scholastic core of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Theology, and World Languages – along with many independent study and elective courses.

Class schedule – SMCA uses a 5-day rotating schedule with seven class periods each day. Classes will vary in length from 45- to 80-minutes, and one period a day is dedicated to a student activity outside of the classroom (study sessions, guest speaker talks, Mass, etc.).

Differentiated learning – Course instruction at St. Michael’s is offered on different levels to help ensure that students are sufficiently challenged. Placement in classes will depend on the student’s aptitude and performance in certain disciplines. Some students may be placed at the highest level in some courses but not in others. The placement is decided under careful consideration of each student’s capabilities and aptitudes.

AP and Honors Classes – For students who are looking for a more rigorous and challenging course of education, SMCA offers Honors and AP courses that explore principles and concepts in greater depth. More independent work will be expected of students enrolled in these courses.

Extracurricular Activities

At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, sparking the creativity, imagination, and potential of students is the main endeavor. By offering a range of extracurricular activities including fine arts and athletics, SMCA places value on both self-expression and mastery of technique.

Arts – The Fine Arts department at SMCA offers a wide array of courses ranging from beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of work. In addition, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their creative work outside of the classroom. Dance, film, music, theater, and visual arts are all options for students at St. Michael’s.
