Aquatic Park: The Best Place to Stay Cool Near our Uptown Minneapolis Apartments

Although Minneapolis might not have the reputation for being a particularly warm place to live, the summers here can get hot. Break out the bathing suits because just an 8-minute walk from our Uptown Minneapolis apartments is our local St. Louis Park Aquatic Park, a gorgeous community pool where the entire family will love to hang out, swim, play, and get some exercise during those hot summer months. Explore all the St. Louis Park Aquatic Park has to offer below.

Schools Out! Summer Hours and Entrance Fees for the Aquatic Park

The Aquatic Park opens in June after Memorial Day, just when the weather turns hot and your family is looking for a place to cool off. Here at our St. Louis Park apartments, we’re in a lucky location. Since we’re so close to the Aquatic Park, our community members end up spending many hours at the aquatic center during the hottest months.

During the months of June and July, the aquatic center is open Monday through Friday from 11 am – 8 pm, and on the weekends from 11 am to 7 pm. In August, the hours change slightly, closing at 7 pm on Monday – Sunday.

Entrance fees are reasonable for a day of fun in the sun. Admission is just $9.50 and drops down to $5.50 for anyone older than 55 years old. Prices also drop after 4:30 pm, with rates at $5.50. Kids under 1 are free.

Depending on how often you plan on coming back, you might be able to save money by grabbing yourself a Season Pass. Passes offer unlimited access to the Aquatic Park, which will no doubt result in many afternoons of summer fun. Season passes are about $60 or less, according to their Season Passes & Groups page. It’s a fabulous idea, especially since our St. Louis Park apartments are just a stone’s throw away!

The Aqua Obstacle Course: Hours of Fun

If you feel like pushing yourself to your athletic limits, you’ll love the Aqua Obstacle Course at the Aquatic Park. According to the Aquatic Park website, this course promises hours of summer fun and features “a ramp, bridge, balance pond, slide, cliff, and corner base, including three activities in one area – the diving board, the drop slides, and the Aqua Obstacle Course.”

You’ll improve balance, strengthen your muscles, improve flexibility, and have so much fun you’ll totally forget that you’re even exercising.

Special Swimming Events at Aquatic Park

Speaking of exercise, adults who are interested in working on their breaststroke should look no further than the Olympic-style lap swim section, where they can get in a good workout and tone their arms and legs.

Other special events include Parent & Tot time, which is when the shallow side of the pool is reserved exclusively for toddlers for a safer swimming environment, where they can play and swim in the water with a parent close by. Parent & Tot Time is reserved for children six years and under, and families should plan to be at the pool before 10:45 in the morning.

Swimming lessons can be a valuable way to ensure safety while out on the water or at the pool. No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to learn. The Aquatic Park offers swimming lessons for people of all ages. Adults can sign up for Adult Lap Swimming lessons, or the whole family can learn together at the Family & Lap Open Swim.

When school’s out for summer, the Aquatic Park celebrates! According to their website, “All ages are welcome to come and celebrate the last day of school at the pool from 3 – 8 pm on June 11! Dollar hot dogs, 50-cent small fountain sodas and 50-cent ice cream sandwiches will be available (while supplies last).” Celebrating the last day of school only costs a dollar in admissions, and results in a full day of summer fun to kick off the season.

Select days throughout the summer also have gender-specific swim times. Women can enjoy an all-female swim, where “females of all ages are invited to come and enjoy an evening swim at the pool. The pool will be in full operation with concessions and music and will be staffed with only females. This event allows females, who for reasons of faith or personal preference who wish to swim in a single-sex environment, enjoy the pool after regular hours.” Men can also enjoy their own select all-male swim days, where “males of all ages are invited to swim in a single-sex environment and enjoy the pool after regular hours,” according to the Aquatic Park website.

What the Locals Say

One local guide talks about how on-point and trustworthy the lifeguards are here at Aquatic Park, who takes their safety standards seriously. “All the lifeguards at the pool are incredibly professional and friendly,” he says, “All the staff are very well trained in all aspects and are very good with kids. Incredible place, 11 out of 10 stars!” That’s high praise and goes a long way in comforting parents who prioritize safety at public pools.

A local mom talks about how fantastic it is to be able to spend time here during the dog days of summer. “Great pool,” she says, “It’s just one big pool area, so families can stay together. There is also a large sand area with toys and water, and concessions are reasonably-priced and tasty. There are even healthy options too!” That’s good news for when your kiddos work up an appetite while swimming at the pool!

A local senior citizen talks about how no matter how many people are there at the pool, it never feels crowded. “The Aquatic Park offers a very large pool area with tons of lounge chairs,” he says, “Even though several hundred people were there, there was plenty of space and no feeling too crowded.”
