Rain or shine, when it comes down to having fun, the weather is never an issue when you live at our apartments in Charlotte. There are many amazing perks to living at Elizabeth Station and “location” is certainly one of them. So, when you’re looking for something exciting to do with the family, here are some great indoor and outdoor options nearby.

 

Indoor

ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center

For a one-of-a-kind experience for the young ones, you’ll definitely want to head over to ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center. Just over 5 minutes from our apartments in Elizabeth Charlotte, this 102,000-square-foot facility is a collaboration between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and was ranked by Livability.com as the No. 1 children’s library in the United States. The Mint Museum

Dedicated to collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and sharing art from all around the world, the Mint Museum is located at the Levine Center for the Arts and is a fantastic outing for the family. The incredible architecture of the building is worth a visit alone, however, the five-story facility boasts ‘cutting-edge exhibitions’ featuring art from across the planet by artists ranging from well-known to the up-and-coming. Discovery Place

Make learning exciting and fun for your kids at Discovery Place. Bringing nature, science, design, and joy together in one place, this awesome museum offers a hands-on experience for your entire family. Create and design inventions at the Thinker Space, explore an underwater world at the aquarium, learn about human bodies at the Being Me exhibition, and more. NASCAR Hall of Fame

The entire history of NASCAR can be found in one building at the NASCAR Hall of Fame – just over two miles from our apartments in Charlotte. Boasting more than 50 interactive experiences, racing fans can get behind the wheel of an iRacing simulator, take the Pit Crew Challenge, and learn all about the history of car racing. Outside

First Ward Park

Located between East 7th, 9th, & Brevard Streets, you’ll find the new First Ward Park. Sprawling over 4.5 acres, this urban park is surrounded by gorgeous views of Charlotte’s downtown skyscrapers. Fountains, sculptures, temporary exhibits, and green space make this park the perfect place to relax and have a picnic on a Saturday afternoon. Learn more on the park’s website.

 

Freedom Park

Take your fun outdoors and bring the family to Freedom Park – just over 3 miles from Elizabeth Station. This massive 98-acre park is the perfect place to spend a Saturday with friends, family, or even by yourself! This gorgeous green space boasts four baseball fields, batting cages, 12 tennis courts, four soccer fields, playgrounds, walking paths, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a 7-acre lake. Big Rock Nature Preserve

Head south to spend the day at Big Rock Nature Preserve. This unassuming 22-acre wooded area boasts stunning granite formations and is a fantastic place to get a glimpse of some wildlife. Walk the short loop trail to get up close to the large, strange stones and transport yourself back to a time when the area was inhabited by Native Americans. Romare Bearden Park

Named for Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden, the Romare Bearden Park is just over 2.5 miles from our apartments in Elizabeth Charlotte. The 5.4-acre park offers cultural and fitness programs throughout the year for all ages and features two gardens, a courtyard with dining tables, a formal event field, several waterfalls, and a play area with interactive dance chimes.
