Summer is upon us which means that it’s time for festivals, events, and fun! San Antonio has tons of warm weather entertainment and many of those events happen to be located near our Northwest San Antonio apartments. From music and races to movies and kayaking, there’s no excuse to be bored this summer when you live at Reserve at Canyon Creek. Fill up your calendar with these super fun June events happening nearby.
Ford Mariachi Festival
As if you needed an excuse to sit outside and enjoy a margarita with live music, the Ford Mariachi Festival invites you to do just that. The free 3-day event is happening from June 22 through June 24th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm each evening. Mariachi bands and Folklorico dancers from local schools float by on boats displaying their talents to all the spectators sitting on the River Walk. The tradition began in 1972 and is still going strong today—get all of the details on the event’s website.
Fiesta Castle Hills
Beginning in 1891 “as a one-parade event as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto,” the Fiesta Castle Hills is one of the nation’s favorite festivals. Happening on June 19th from 8 am to 5 pm, the fiesta includes a 5K run and walk, a Fiesta Parade highlighting important people and organizations from the community, and the Fair in the Commons where you’ll find food, vendors, and sponsors from all around the area. Wonderland of the Americas 10th Annual Open Car Show
Celebrate Father’s Day on June 19th at the Wonderland of the America’s 10th Annual Open Car Show. All cars, trucks, and bikes are welcome to enter the car show occurring from 2 pm to 7 pm for $20, or you can attend as a spectator for free. Awards will be distributed in the categories of Top 40, Wonderland’s Choice, and Best in Show. Plus, attendees will enjoy music, food, and amazing door prizes. Movie in the Park – The Lion King
Head downtown from our apartments on Vance Jackson with the whole family for a Movie in the Park at the Tower of Americas. On June 12th from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm, you and your family can set up a blanket and enjoy a free showing of The Lion King under the stars. Mission Reach Flotilla Fiesta
If there’s one place you want to be on a hot summer day, it’s the San Antonio River. The Mission Reach Flotilla Fiesta is a community-centric kayaking event that is free and pet-friendly. Happening on June 19th from 10 am to 2 pm, you and hundreds of other locals will enjoy paddling in kayaks (available for free!) starting from the Mission County Park Trailhead. The event is designed to help bring awareness to the Mission Beach Ecosystem and Recreation Project on the San Antonio River. Learn more on the event’s official website.
