Create a Fairy Garden for Your Patio or Front Porch

Fairy gardens are a fun and whimsical way to add some magic to your yard. They can be as simple or as complicated as you want them to be, which makes them perfect for DIYers of all ages. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a complete beginner, you can create a beautiful fairy garden that will bring joy to you and your family.

To get started, find a spot in your yard that gets plenty of sunlight. You’ll need a container that’s at least 12 inches deep, so you can plant some flowers and other plants. If you want to get really creative, you can use a unique container like a birdbath, a teapot, or even a hollowed-out log. Once you have your container, fill it with potting soil and add some rocks or pebbles to create a drainage layer. Then, plant your favorite flowers and plants. Be sure to choose plants that are small and low-maintenance, so they won’t take over your garden.

To finish off your fairy garden, add some miniature decorations like a fairy house, a birdbath, or a bench. You can also add some moss, rocks, and other natural elements to create a realistic look. Once your fairy garden is complete, sit back and enjoy your little slice of magic. You’ll be amazed at how much joy it brings to your life. Find some tutorials here.

Make a Family Photo Wreath

You can decorate your home with things you absolutely love and that hold deep meaning for your family. Guests will see your love for family history right when they come in: your DIY family tree wreath will be right by the front door.

To create the wreath, you’ll select two photos for each surname and make miniature copies to fit small photo frames (available from craft stores). The leaves are the surnames printed onto an old canvas drop cloth and cut out. Using what’s on hand is fine for the wreath backing. “You don’t necessarily need a wreath form,” you say. “You can use strong cardboard or a pool noodle cut to size and tape into a circle with duct tape.” Then cover the backing by wrapping it in ribbon, vintage-y fabric, or burlap.

You’ll say that the wreath is a great way to celebrate your family and their history. If you’re looking for a unique and personal way to decorate your home, consider making a DIY family tree wreath. It’s a fun and easy project that will be a cherished keepsake for years to come.

Make a Bird Feeder or Birdhouse

Bird feeders and birdhouses are a great way to attract colorful birds to your yard. They’re also a fun DIY project to do with kids, as you can teach them simple woodworking skills. The project isn’t too large or overwhelming, so it’s perfect for a beginner. Here’s a bird feeder you can build in just two hours, or check out these 14 amazing birdhouses for some inspiration.

Family Photo Coasters

You can make your own personalized photo tiles to use as coasters at home. Here’s how:

  1. Print out the images you want to use on photo paper using your home printer.
  2. Cut the images into 4×4-inch squares, the same size as the white ceramic tiles you bought (for 16 cents each!) from a home improvement store.
  3. Write the names of each couple on the bottom edge of a tile using a permanent marker.
  4. Apply Mod Podge to adhere the photo to the tile.
  5. Seal everything with a couple more Mod Podge layers.
  6. After plenty of drying time, brush on a clear protective coating.
  7. Apply adhesive felt circles to the back of each tile.
  8. Now you have beautiful, personalized photo tiles to display in your home!
