If you live in Colorado – loving the outdoors comes naturally to you. Thankfully, for residents of our Lowry apartments, access to outdoor space, parks, and hiking trails is incredibly convenient. Grab your water bottle and head outdoors with your dog, little ones, or just yourself – there is so much to explore near Alas Over Lowry.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

Just 8 miles and a 21-minute drive from our apartments in Lowry is the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. The 15,000-acre admission-free refuge is one of the largest urban refuges in the country and is home to over 300 species of both resident and migratory wildlife. Begin your visit at the informative and exhibit-filled visitor center before exploring the expansive land.

The refuge offers 10 miles of easy to moderate hiking trails made of mostly soft gravel and some with dirt. The network of trails flows along lake edges, wooded areas, and prairie shrubs. In the wintertime, snowshoes are permitted.

If you don’t feel like hiking, guests can explore the refuge by car by on the self-guided 11-mile Wildlife Drive. You’ll drive through bison pasture, woodlands, wetlands, and grasslands while taking in the sights, sounds, and smells with of nature. Keep an eye out for local wildlife!

Cherry Creek State Park

Residents of our Lowry apartments can reach Cherry Creek State Park in less than 20 minutes. Known as Denver’s ‘natural and spacious backyard playground,’ the prairie land park is anchored around an 880-acre reservoir and is filled with lots of activity options.

Visitors of the park will find something to do every season of the year. There are 12 miles of multi-use trails, horseback riding, camping, jet ski rentals, fishing, biking, birding, snowshoeing, sledding, and more. You can also camp at one of the 135 renovated campsites. Dogs are welcome at the campgrounds and some trails while on a leash, with the exception of the designated off-leash area.

If you’ve found a hobby in model airplanes, Cherry Creek State Park has a model airplane field called Suhaka Field. There are two paved runways, a paved taxiway and pit area, as well as a separate flying field dedicated to rotorcraft.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater

The world-renowned Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is conveniently located just over 20 miles from our apartments in Lowry, and once you’re there, it’s an experience like no other. Red Rocks is a geologically formed, open-air amphitheater that is unlike any other place on the planet. Two 300-foot monoliths help create the amphitheater that hosts some of the biggest names in music – making it one of the most popular music venues in the world.

In addition to being an incredible music venue, Red Rocks is also a picture-perfect setting to hike, bike, and get your lungs pumping. There are five trails, all located at approximately 6,280 feet above sea level and range in length and difficulty. Runners and those seeking exercise also have the option of using the amphitheater’s stairs and seats as an additional cardiovascular challenge.
