Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary
Located just over 30 minutes from our Las Colinas apartments is the impressive Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. Not only can you immerse yourself in nature, but you get to learn about it as well.
In the museum, visitors will find multiple exhibits and gardens like the ‘Animals of the World’ or ‘Native Texas Snakes’ exhibits. And the Native Texas Butterfly Garden and House is an absolute must-visit. Or, if you’d prefer to step away from the crowd, you can head out to the sanctuary where you can bird watch or look out for wildlife among the 6.5 miles of nature trails.

Towne Lake
Pack up the family or head out with your friends for a fun and nature-filled day at Towne Lake. Towne Lake is a great place to have a picnic, go fishing, rent a paddleboat, play disc golf, or a game of volleyball. Visitors will also find a short and easy, mile-long nature trail for a casual walk outside as well as 9 horseshoe pits.

Lewisville Lake
Spanning 29,000 acres with 233 miles of coastline, Lewisville Lake is a haven for the lover of nature and the outdoors. Not only are their water-based activities like boating, water sports, and fishing, but there are also swimming beaches, miles of trails, and camping as well.
If you’re planning on throwing a line in the water, the usual fish caught in the lake are large-mouth bass, crappie, catfish, white bass, and a hybrid white/striped bass. For more heart-pumping activities, visitors can rent jet-skis, go sail-boarding, or work up a sweat at the athletic facilities.
Lavon Lake
Boasting 16 parks, 244 picnic sites, 5 beaches, 19 boat ramps, and over 200 campsites, Lavon Lake is one of Texas’ favorite recreational spots. With 121 miles of shoreline, this incredible and massive lake is a wonderful destination for fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
After taking in some sun and relaxing on a beach, take a walk on the Trinity Trail, a 9-mile hiking and equestrian trail between Brockdale and East Fork Parks.
