March First Brewing
Just over 2 miles away from our apartments in West Chester is March First Brewing. Named after the founding date of the state of Ohio in 1803, March First Brewing specializes in “drinkable” craft beer, ciders, and spirits. They proudly create their products in a way that does not follow industry norms, therefore, self-labeling themselves as ‘unpredictable’.
Some of their classic craft beers include the Craft Lager, Highpoint IPA, Irish Red, Orange Cream, and Swiss Chocolate Stout. But beers aren’t all they make! Guests can also sip on a Green Apple Hard Candy Cider, Strawberry Lemonade Cider, a Bomb Pop Hard Seltzer, or even whiskey, vodka, and rum.

Fretboard Brewing Company
Less than a 10-minute drive away from McCauly Crossing is Fretboard Brewing. Their taproom is open 7 days a week (with hours that vary) and they also have outdoor seating, live music, and more. Fretboard offers year-round beers like the Mellowship India Session Pilsner, Bootsy Brewski IPA, Trey Amber Ale, and the Jack White Ale. Plus, guests can also find seasonal offerings like the Dark Throne Dark Czech Lager, Flute Loop Fruity Nugget IPA, Fugee Breakfast Ale, and the Chase the Devil BBA Stout.
Although they don’t have a kitchen themselves, Fretboard has insanely delicious BBQ on-site provided by Smoked Out Cincy. Try a Philly Brisket sandwich, Smoked Pulled Chicken Sandwich, BBQ Pork Fries, or an order of smoked wings. Their full menu can be found here.

Also just 10 minutes away from our apartments in West Chester is Sonder Brewing. The definition of ‘sonder’ is the realization that every person has a unique story — and Sonder Brewing feels the same way about beer. Their high-quality beer is unique and brewed on-site in a 15,200-square-foot building with a 2,000-square-foot taproom.
Sonder’s core beers consist of the Voss Kolsch, Blanc Belgian Style Wheat Ale, You Betcha! New England IPA, and the Record Hop IPA. Seasonals include the Oktoberfest, Kato Kolsch with Coffee, and the Kenosha Kickers Apple StruesALE.
To make sure you get some food in your belly while trying all of their beers, the Brew River Kitchen serves food at Sonder Brewing. Their menu includes delicious pub fare items like poutine, tater tots, burgers, truffle mac and cheese, pork rinds, and more. You can browse the entire menu here.
DogBerry Brewing
DogBerry Brewing is another great brewery that sources local ingredients for their brews which give each one a unique flavor profile. Considering themselves scientists, the brewers at DogBerry have perfected their beers and pride their product on being one-of-a-kind to the area. Try their Bray’s Brown Coffee Brown Ale, On the Black Black IPA, Layer Up Winter Ale, or the Bullpen Session IPA.
