When it comes to education, you’ve got a wealth of options when you live in New Albany. Here are just a few local gems.

The Ohio State University: An American icon

Just under 20 minutes from our New Albany apartments is the largest public university in the United States. Established in 1870, The Ohio State University has made quite the name for itself in not only sports but in academics and making huge strides in research. According to US News and World Report, The Ohio State University is among the nation’s top 20 best public universities, and #1 among Ohio’s public universities.

When it comes to finding a solid public University that won’t break the bank, Ohio State is hard to beat. Offering more than 12,000 courses, they have something for everyone on their path of learning. It’s no wonder they were ranked one of the most “innovative universities in the nation”, alongside their ranks for the 12 best public research universities and 4th among all universities in industry-sponsored research.

Ohio State offers much in the way of online courses as well. Looking to earn your degree from home? They were ranked the #1 for “Best Online Bachelor’s Programs”. And what’s more, The Ohio State University was ranked among the “Best of the Best” colleges for veterans, all according to their website.

Otterbein University: A small private university with a big heart.

If you’re looking for a more personalized experience, Otterbein University is a small, private college in nearby Westerville. Founded in 1847, their beautiful campus is nestled beside Alum Creek and is comprised of 140 acres.

Being one of the most selective private colleges in the nation, students can be sure to receive a specialized, personalized educational experience with a close-knit group of friends and classmates. And Otterbein students love giving back to the world! The school has been honored by President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor roll for five consecutive years. Approximately 80% of the student body participates in community service, and Otterbein students contribute about 50,000 hours of community service every year, according to their website. Clearly, Otterbein students go out into the world knowing how to help!

Perhaps the most unique thing about Otterbein University is its department of Equine Science, where students can learn all about horseback riding and horse management at the 70-acres devoted just to the equine department. Here, students can ride in large indoor riding areas, learn about regional and national competitions, and ride around the 70 acres.

Columbus State Community College

Just fifteen minutes south of our New Albany apartments is Columbus State Community College, nestled in downtown Columbus. They are proud to offer two-year career programs in more than 50 areas of business, health, public service, engineering technologies, and many more. Most notably is their new and bold hospitality management and culinary arts program.

Columbus State Community College is a great place to kick-start your degree before transferring to a four-year university, and they pride themselves on being extremely affordable.

From their website, “If you could pay 40-60% less for a house, car, or any big-ticket item, you wouldn’t hesitate. College is one of the biggest investments most people will ever make. Maximize your investment and minimize the cost of getting a bachelor’s degree by starting at Columbus State.” They’re proud to help their students start their careers debt-free.
