Larry Connor Delivers Commencement Address at Ohio University

Founder and Managing Partner Larry Connor returned to his alma mater in May to deliver Ohio University’s commencement address and receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

He encouraged the Class of 2026 to recognize the significance of the moment, not only for themselves but also for the people who supported them along the way.

“Relish the moment. Relish the experience,” Larry said. “Not only for you, but for all those people who supported you in your journey at Ohio University.”

Throughout his remarks, Larry challenged graduates to embrace the idea that they are still a work in progress. He reminded them that success is rarely immediate, failure is part of the process and long-term growth depends on belief, resilience and the choices made every day.

“You are a work in progress,” Larry said. “You do not have to be perfect. Learn to enjoy the process.”

That message reflects the same mindset that has shaped The Connor Group’s culture. The company is built on high standards, accountability and the belief that people can grow when they are challenged and supported.

Larry also spoke candidly about adversity in his own career, including a time in his 30s when he was in debt, had a failed business and had no immediate way to provide for his family.

“But I still had belief,” Larry said. “Failure was never an option.”

Today, that belief remains central to The Connor Group’s culture. The company’s success has been built by associates who embrace challenges, pursue excellence and understand that growth often comes through obstacles.

“In the end, it comes down to belief,” Larry said. “Belief that you can grow, belief that you can handle adversity, belief that failure is not the end, but rather the beginning.”
