Fun Things To Do Outside Near Our Springboro Apartments This Summer

The way things have been going in 2020, it can feel like summer (and the foreseeable future) has been ‘canceled’. Thankfully, that’s just simply not the truth. For residents of our Springboro apartments, there are so many fun things to do this summer and they’re all happening nearby. Of course, some things have changed, there may be certain safety and health precautions in place at some of your favorite spots and outings. Be sure to check individual websites and social media accounts for up-to-date information.

Here is just a handful of summer activities you can enjoy with your friends and family near The Falls at Settlers Walk.

Outdoor Market

Feast on local, fresh foods at 2nd Street Market – just a quick 20-minute drive from our apartments in Springboro. Five Rivers MetroParks’ 2nd Street Market is an outdoor, fresh food shopping venue that takes place on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Visitors will be expected to wear face coverings and maintain a 6-foot social distance, however, that doesn’t stop you from picking up some of the freshest produce and baked goods you can find. Places to Walk

Hop in the car and take a short 10-minute drive to Patrica Allyn Park and take a stroll on the walking loop. Moderately-trafficked, the 1.1-mile paved loop is perfect for all skill levels and you can even bring your pooch – just be sure to keep them on a leash at all times. Along the trail, you’ll find walkers, bikers, hikers, and runners enjoying the peaceful lake and manicured grounds. Patricia Allyn Park is also home to a disc golf course, basketball court, and volleyball nets.

Envelop yourself in nature, get some fresh air, and enjoy the crown jewel of the wetland corridor at Siebenthaler Fen. The 1-mile trail at the fen is a wheelchair-friendly, flat boardwalk made with recycled plastic and fiberglass. The trail is a popular destination for school groups, bird watchers, and wildflower enthusiasts. While enjoying your walk in the 130-acre property, prepare to see gorgeous plant diversity and a diverse array of colorful birds.

Places to Kayak or Canoe

Make your way up to downtown Dayton for some action-packed adventures on the water at RiverScape River Run. There are two features for kayakers at the RiverScape River Run, both features offer something a bit more challenging for experienced paddlers as well as chutes that are easier to navigate for the novice paddler. Eastwood MetroPark is your local hub for outdoor recreation – and it’s less than half an hour away from our Springboro apartments. There are numerous trails, a lake for boating and fishing, Mad River Water Trail for fishing and paddling, Mad River Run for kayaking, canoeing, and more fishing – what more do you really need? Putt-Putt Golf

Who doesn’t love a fun game of miniature golf? Round up your friends and participate in some friendly competition at Your Adventure Golf. The open-air facility features 18 holes of themed and obstacle-filled holes that will definitely make any sunny day better. Due to the recent health crisis, the staff is taking extra precautions in sanitizing the facility, clubs, and balls. Visit their website for pricing, hours, and group deals.

Public Golf

For people who take golf a little more seriously, head to one of the state’s premier public golf courses – Heatherwoode Golf Club. Less than 5 miles away, Heatherwoode boasts a championship golf course with incredible views at every hole. They offer a variety of memberships, private lessons, practice facilities, and more. Learn About Local History

Explore the history of Dayton and all of its accomplishments at the Carillon Historic Park. The 65-acre museum and park features exhibits and buildings regarding the history of technology and the history of the city and its residents from 1796 to now. The four major sections include settlement, transportation, invention, and industry. It’s a wonderful place to spend a summer afternoon while learning a thing or two. Pick Local Fruit

Head east, just outside of Xenia, to pick a bucket of berries at Berryhill Farm. Blueberry season starts in July and runs through August while red raspberries and blackberries will be ready to pick at the beginning of August and run at least through labor day. They’ll provide you with the buckets or bags, and you’ll pay by the pound. If you’d prefer, they also provide drive-up sales for pre-picked berries as well.
