Reach your fitness goals at our South Charlotte apartments with these effective at-home workout ideas

Reaching your fitness goals doesn’t have to involve an expensive gym or studio membership. In fact, it’s completely possible for you to achieve real results from the comfort of your home. For residents of our South Charlotte apartments, even though you have access to the 24-hour smart fitness studio onsite, there are plenty of workouts you can do in your living room to help you build muscle, burn fat, and get your lungs pumping.

Here are 4 at-home workouts that pack a major punch.

HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)

High-Intensity Interval Training known as HIIT is one of the best ways to melt fat and improve your cardio strength—and you need just a small space to complete a seriously intense workout. To complete this method of workout, alternate 20 seconds of hard work (the hardest you can possibly go) with 10 seconds of rest—for a total of eight sets. After each round, rest for a full 30-90 seconds. Even though the workout is quick, it’s extremely effective on its own but can also be combined with the other workouts below.

Complete the following 8 exercises for 20 seconds on (100% full exertion) and 10 seconds off for eight total rounds. Rest for 30-90 seconds in between each round.

  • Jumping jacks
  • Plank
  • Lunges
  • Side planks
  • Butt kickers
  • Hand walks
  • Kettlebell swings (could be used with a gallon of water)
  • Lateral hops

The Pyramid Workout

Here’s a workout that requires zero equipment and a minimal amount of space. Get ready for a challenge because this style will help you tone muscle, burn fat, and push your to your limits.

Start with 16 reps of each of the exercises below. Then, you’ll repeat the round at 14 reps, followed by 12, 10, 8, and 6 reps. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, keep in mind that you won’t be taking any breaks in between each round. The workout should take around 20-30 minutes and you’ll most definitely break a sweat.

  • Burpees
  • Air squats
  • Mountain climbers (16 reps per leg, 14 reps per leg, etc.)
  • Pushups

Pilates

Pilates is a low-impact, high-intensity style of working out that increases core strength, range of motion, and flexibility. There are plenty of apps, websites, and videos that offer free Pilates classes ranging in length and skill level. Start with YouTube to find a teacher or instructor that you like. Or, find a local Pilates studio that offers virtual classes.

Yoga

The practice of yoga can range from gentle and calming to challenging and intense, depending on the style of yoga you choose to practice. Regardless, yoga is a wonderful workout that tones, strengthens, and stretches–also integrating mental discipline into the practice. The best part about yoga, however, is that it can be done quietly and in a small space. Much like Pilates, yoga can be done at home via the use of apps, videos, and live-streaming. Search YouTube for videos that match your skill level or look for a local yoga studio that offers virtual classes.
