Conservation Efforts in Texas and Beyond

When you purchase a ticket to the Dallas World Aquarium, you’re donating to conservation efforts to support wildlife across the globe. The Dallas World Aquarium has ongoing conservation efforts in Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Mexico. The team, led by the founder of the Dallas World Aquarium, Daryl Richardson, regularly travels to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve in Venezuela to help save the Manatee population from local challenges.

The Dallas World Aquarium contributes to the Amazon Manatee Conservation Project in Brazil, to the Jaguar Conservation Program in El Pantanal, and continues to contribute to many, many more conservation efforts around the world.

Featured Animals and Exhibits

During your visit to the Dallas World Aquarium, you’re probably going to fall in love with the animals you encounter. Whether it’s a chameleon, a toucan, a shark, or an otter, the variety of animals here exceeds expectations.

The adventure begins in Borneo, Australia, where you can discover Australian fish, birds, and mammals, such as the Shoebill stork, the blue penguin, and the banded archerfish.

Learn about animals of the Maya on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, such as the beautiful Ocelot, the black and white hawk eagle, the American Flamingo, and aquatic life such as the adorable Axolotl and Jaguar Cichlid. According to the Dallas World Aquarium website, “The highlight is a 400,000-gallon walk-through Cenote exhibit filled with sharks, rays, and sea turtles of the Yucatán Peninsula.” Surely this is something you’ll have to see with your own eyes!

You’ll also pass through the Orinoco exhibit, which highlights the beautiful species of the South American rainforest ecosystem. Discover the Ocellate River Stingray and animals such as the Hawk-headed Parrot, the colorful Saffron Toucanet (which looks like a mini Toucan), and even the Hoffman’s Two-toed Sloth!

The South Africa exhibit houses a plethora of frogs, reptiles, and birds, including Black-footed Penguins and Great Blue Turacos. According to their website, “During the summer months, this lush botanical area is also home to unusual reptiles and amphibians from Madagascar.”

You might notice that many of these animals we just mentioned are not typical of an aquarium. That’s because the Dallas World Aquarium is more aptly described as a zoo! But that doesn’t mean they don’t have a stunning and comprehensive aquarium gallery, featuring a “coral reef and kelp forest ecosystems in large naturalistic displays including a 20,000-gallon walk-through tunnel exhibit which is home to hundreds of Indo-Pacific fishes,” according to their website. Be sure to stop on by to discover the colorful Harlequin shrimp, the graceful Pot-bellied seahorse, the stunning Zebra Angelfish, and a vibrant coral reef.

A Great Place to Host Your Event

Whether you have a wedding, conference, or birthday celebration on the schedule, consider booking your big day at the Dallas World Aquarium. The Aquarium offers robust event packages including bar packages, seated dinners, cocktail buffets, international reception stations, dessert stations, and even a coffee bar. They’ve thought of everything!

Their website proclaims, you can “Spend an evening among marine life of the South Pacific, Great Barrier Reef, and the Red and Tasman Seas; take a stroll through a South American rainforest surrounded by lush vegetation, free-flying toucans, otters, crocodiles, and several species of monkeys; or visit the Yucatan Peninsula and the highland rainforest of the ancient Maya.” All at your wedding or business meeting! Your guests will be blown away – all the while enjoying stellar catering, and their expert in-house wait staff for your formal or casual gathering.

What to Know Before You Go

You can easily spend an entire day here, but don’t worry – they have a fantastic snack booth where you can go if the kid’s tummies start growling. It’s a good idea to wear comfortable walking shoes because your entire day will be spent walking around! Visit the aquarium seven days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, every day of the year except for major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. The best part? The Dallas World Aquarium is an easy ten-minute drive from our Highland Park apartments. You and the family will be here all the time.

The admission rate for an adult is $20.95 plus tax, and a child’s ticket is $14.95 plus tax. Children under 2 enjoy free admission. Senior rates are $16.95.

What the Locals Say

The Dallas World Aquarium is a local gem. Don’t take our word for it – the Dallas locals are the best people to ask about local attractions.

One local guide says, “This was a really cool place. It twists and turns on different levels and is separated by habitat, mostly. There’s a restaurant, bar area, gift shop, and lots of cool habitats to explore. I liked how you could make your own way through it all – there was no right or wrong way to venture through the animals. Great for families or anyone that wants to see more nature.”

Another local guide praises how many animals one can see at the Dallas World Aquarium. “Amazing!” she says, “It’s not only an aquarium but a zoo as well. They had exotic birds, sharks, sloths, alligators, stingrays, everything! The layout was perfect. You start at the top floor and work your way down moving through several countries across the globe. My kids loved this place!”

Speaking of kids, this is a popular place for local schools to bring their students on field trips. It’s not only a fun adventure where you can surround yourself with beautiful animals and aquatic life, but it’s a place where kids will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re learning!
