This 554-acre gorgeous state park sits just outside of Louisville and is chock-full of fun recreational activities. Test your skills at the archery range, take a swim in the largest outdoor public pool in Louisville, hike on the Goose Creek Nature Trail, or get extreme on the Supercross BMX track. There is even a dog park. Learn more about what the park has to offer on the official E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park website.
Coppiced Woods Trail
To experience the beauty of the region’s nature, you’ll definitely want to head to Coppiced Woods Trail. Talk a walk through the oak-hickory forest and notice single trees with two or more trunks—this is called coppicing, hence the name of the trail. This happens when fires, storms, logging, flooding, or even trampling by deer split the wood. Take in the unique and interesting sites along the 1.87-mile easy trail for hikers and cyclists alike. Learn more about the trail and the park on the Coppiced Woods Trail website.
Hays Kennedy Park
