A Brief History of Kings Island
Kings Island opened in Spring of 1972 after Coney Island, on the banks of the Ohio river, sustained significant damage from a major flood. The park was under 14 feet of water in 1964. The owners were forced to find a new location for the park, and decided that Mason was the perfect location – just high enough ground away from the Ohio River, but close to bustling Cincinnati.
After two years of construction, the park opened, and the general public could enjoy their popular rides such as the Wild Mouse, the Scooby-Doo Roller Coaster, and the Kings Island & Miami Valley Rail Road. According to cpfansite.com, the park became so popular that even an episode of The Brady Bunch was filmed there!
Ever since, the park has seen constant improvement and continuous love from Ohioans and the rest of the USA. In fact, Kings Island was the second-most visited seasonal amusement park in the United States in 2017, right behind another Ohio favorite, Cedar Point.
Planet Snoopy: A Great Place for The Little Ones
If you have tiny tots in tow, you can still have a great time at Kings Island. Planet Snoopy is the perfect place to bring young kids who aren’t tall enough to ride on the big-league roller coasters yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t experience some thrills and fun of their own! Here at Planet Snoopy, there are plenty of rides and attractions for the kids to enjoy, such as the Character Carousel, the Peanuts Off-Road Rally, or the Joe Cool’s Dodgem School, where the kids can rev up their bumper car engines!
For youngin’s that want to experience some roller coaster thrills, there’s the Flying Ace Aerial Chase, which is a thrilling suspended steel roller coaster that is “designed specifically for kids and their parents and grandparents to enjoy together in seats that are suspended below the coaster track”, according to the Kings Island Website.

Kings Island boasts more than 9 miles of roller coaster track combined, which means that thrill seekers are in for a treat! According to their website, “Kings Island is home to some of the top-ranked roller coasters in annual industry and enthusiast polls, including Mystic Timbers, voted by Amusement Today as the “Best New Ride” in 2017. This fun and thrilling roller coaster takes riders on an adventure through 3,265 feet of track through wooded terrain and over water at speeds up to 53 mph.”

That’s not even the best of it! Other rides include The Beast, which was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest wooden roller coaster in the world! Other rides send guests on stomach-twisting turns, loops, and fast drops that are sure to have you screaming with your arms up in the air.
Soak City: The Region’s Best Waterpark
Is there anything more fun than hitting up a waterpark on a hot summer’s day? Kings Island has you covered with Soak City, where you can enjoy the free fall Tropical Plunge water slide or enjoy a day riding the waves at Tidal Wave Bay. Your entire family or group of friends can experience the ride of their lives on the Zoom Flume, where four people can speed down a giant water slide in a huge raft.
If you’re more in the mood to grab some rays and relax, than you can make reservations for one of their VIP Cabanas, which can serve as both home base and as a great place to chill out, summer style.

During the winter season, “step into a world of holiday fun” at Kings Island’s WinterFest.
